The only Khmer artist at this year’s fair, I’m excited to be publishing H3, a celebration GBTIQ+ bodies, identity and sexuality. A kaleidoscope of photography spanning 15 years of intimate portraits.

Walking footsteps somewhere between Nan Goldin and Robert Maplethorpe my photography is equal parts personal documentation and erotically performative. A Cambodian- Australian artist documenting queer bodies, sexuality and intimacy in candid ways seems to be absent in publications. South east Asian GBTIQ artists and bodies aren’t often represented in contemporary art and publications uncensored. We took the leap of faith to publish this kaleidoscope of work spanning 15 years to bring greater awareness and also hopefully create a dialogue about the GBTIQ+ folks in Asia. We want to be seen, heard and read about.

Books are Powerful! They travel great distances, crossing oceans cultures and generations. I hope that this book is passed between friends so that those who don’t feel as though they have a voice can feel seen. This book is a celebration of that often censored intimacy.

HE/HIM เป็นหนังสือที่รวบรวมภาพถ่ายพอร์เทรทซึ่ง Gatsby ใช้เวลารวบรวมมามากกว่า 15 ปี ก่อนทั้งหมดจะถูกพิมพ์เป็นเล่มเพื่อจัดแสดงที่ กรุงเทพฯ ในช่วงเดือนไพรด์ที่ผ่านมา Gatsby เล่าว่าเขาได้รับแรงบันดาลใจมาจากสองช่างภาพอย่าง Nan Goldin และ Robert Maplethorpe จึงเลือกนำเสนอผลงานในรูปแบบภาพถ่ายพอร์เทรตชายเปลือยในธีมเควียร์ เพศสภาพ และปิตาธิปไตย ซึ่งเป็นประเด็นที่เจ้าตัวบอกว่าไม่ค่อยเป็นที่พูดถึงมากนักในวงการหนังสือเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้

สำหรับ Gatsby หนังสือมีพลังมหาศาล มันสามารถเดินทางข้ามน้ำ ข้ามทะเล ผ่านวัฒนธรรมและยุคสมัยที่หลากหลายเพื่อส่งต่อเรื่องราวของตัวเอง เขาจึงหวังว่าหนังสือเล่มนี้จะมีพลังมากพอในการส่งเสียงเพื่อกลุ่มคนที่มีความหลากหลายทางเพศในเอเชีย ทำให้เรื่องราวของกลุ่มคนเหล่านี้ถูกมองเห็นและถูกทำความเข้าใจมากขึ้น จนสามารถจุดประกายบทสนทนาอื่นๆ เกี่ยวกับความหลากหลายทางเพศได้ในอนาคต
